June 18, 2010 Internships: What Employers Need To Know

In this installment, we discuss internships,the potential risks of unpaid internships, and how employers can provide internship opportunities while minimizing litigation risk. We talk about recent campaigns by the Department of Labor and the Wage and Hour Division, walk through the six-factor test regulators use to determine whether an intern is really an employee, and highlight some of the differences between for-profit businesses and public sector and non-profit organizations. Our guest for this installment is Daniel Schwartz. Mr. Schwartz is a member of the law firm of Pullma & Comley. He has extensive trial and litigation experience in both federal and state courts.
